December 12 - 2005 - Gebran Tueni, a fiery critic of Syria, was assassinated in a car-bomb explosion in Mkalles, east of Beirut Monday. He was 48.  Tueni was An Nahar's general manager and Beirut legislator

August - 22, 2005 A powerful blast hit a shopping center in the Zalka neighborhood in north Beirut. causing extensive damage and wounding at least three people, Lebanese security and Red Cross sources said. Security forces were seen rounding up several suspects, including five men with their hands tied behind their backs. They were taken to a military vehicle.
August - 20, 2005 Finance Minister Speaks of Boosting Currency Reserves to Cope with U.N. Report on Hariri's Murder We have taken all the measures to deal with any unforeseen situation. August - 17, 2005 U.N. Resolves 'How' Hariri been Killed, Still has to Pinpoint 'Who' is the Killer
 
The 'how' has been resolved, but the 'who' still has to be determined to pinpoint who had ordered the assassination.  
August - 13, 2005 Speaker Berri is in the process of calling the session  to vote on a proposed bill that would alter article 68 of the electoral law to allow the MTV to go back to the airwaves. This repot was published Thursday by Al Mustaqbal newspaper of Saad Hariri's Tayyar Al Mustaqbal Movement, which also speaks for the majority alliance of Hariri, Walid Jumblat, Samir Geagea and Qornet Shahwan  
August - 02, 2005 Fahd oversaw the Taif Accord in 1989, ending the 15-year Lebanese Civil War.  He later poured investment into Lebanon's reconstruction, mainly channeled through slain former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri The government also welcomed Syria's decision to reopen its borders to Lebanon's transit trade trucks stranded with perishable cargos of fruits and vegetables for five weeks when the frontier was shuttered

July 22, 2005 U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice pressed for the disarming of Hezbollah and berated Syria for its virtual lockdown of Lebanon's border during a surprise visit to Lebanon on Friday.... she went to the Presidential Palace for a meeting with Lebanon's pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud, later also having separate meetings with Saniora and pro-Syrian speaker, Nabih Berri. Rice is the first senior U.S. official to visit Beirut in more than two years. She arrived from Jerusalem.

 
July 21, 2005 Bush Administration Boycotts Hizbullah's Minister in Seniora's Cabinet
 
The Bush administration was quick to publicly welcome the formation of Lebanon's new government but said it would boycott Hizbullah's member in Fouad Seniora's cabinet -- Energy Minister Mohammed Fneish.
 
State Department spokesman Adam Ereli welcomed the new government as a step forward in democratic reform, but said the U.S. would not be able to engage in any contact with Fneish
July 19, 2005 The new 24-seat government is headed by Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, who served as finance minister in Mr. Hariri's governments. It took a month to assemble a cabinet lineup that was acceptable to the parliament.

"we have to operate as a cohesive taskforce because we face formidable challenges. Let's be scarce in words and abundant in deeds."

Two thirds of the cabinet are drawn from  Saad Hariri, son and political heir of Rafik Hariri, and Walid Jumblatt, leader of Lebanon's Druze community. The remaining third comprises allies of the pro- Syrian president, Emile Lahoud, as well as members of the Shiite bloc that includes Hizbullah and the Amal Movement

Who won Lebanon's elections?

Hezbollah won 14 seats, its ally Shiite Amal took 15, plus few pro Syrian seats, but expects that a pro-U.S. Hariri will (wishfully) contain them as a prelude to their disarmament. And while it notes that exiled Christian general Michel AOUN obtained 21 seats,
